17 Hours in San Francisco

We arrived in San Francisco yesterday afternoon and had a long layover in this beautiful city. This was something that really appealed to us when we were booking our flights out of the U.S. and we were excited to get to explore for a bit. We lucked into getting to crash at a friend’s place for free so we dropped our bags there and headed out to explore for a bit!

The first stop was Fisherman’s Wharf to look at a bunch of tourists, the water and to also get a peek at the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.

Then we hiked up a hell of a hill to Lombard Street which is the steepest and windiest road we have ever seen.

After that we made it back to the waterfront and watched the adorable sea lions at Pier 39.

By then we realized we really hadn’t eaten all day, so we hit up the Little Italy part of town and devoured some pasta and wine at Trattoria Contadina. We decided to keep enjoying the walking nature of SF so we headed over to The Buena Vista for one of their famous Irish Coffees, which were more Irish than coffee. What a great way to end the night!

After that we got back to our home for the night, where we somehow managed to take every single thing out of our backpacks and then discussed how we have way too much crap. There will be further discussions on this subject seeing that we’re already worried we are going to break zippers, shoulder straps and our backs.

Now we’re at the airport in San Francisco and getting ready to board our flight to Oahu. We cannot wait to see what Hawaii has to offer and we are ready for the beach (and potential sunburns). Our two top events in Hawaii will be finalizing our scuba certification and seeing The Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. We also hope to get in some beach time to work on our base tans, take a hike or two and figure out the basics of hostel life.

Lombard Street is for sure a trek in the middle of a city! I was unprepared and went in flats once. My feet were hurting at the end haha Glad y’all had a great time and that you were able to turn a layover into a mini-adventure. What a great attitude!
