Twist to the normal food post… this time we’re talking about what we cooked. We are in Bangkok, Thailand and spent the morning in a Thai cooking class. It was a one-of-a-kind experience and we loved every minute of it. Our class was with Sompong Thai Cooking School, which we found on TripAdvisor.
Class started at 9:30 am with a trip to the market. Our instructor taught us about the ingredients used in Thai cooking, explained how there are different varieties of vegetables and seasonings we would be using, showed us how coconut cream and coconut milk are created and much more. The market tour was jam-packed with all kinds of useful information and answered many questions that had come up when eating Thai food in the past.
After the market we headed back to the classroom to learn how to make a few different meals. The menu for the day was:
- Northern spicy chicken salad
- Stir fried prawns with tamarind sauce
- Red curry paste
- Red curry with chicken
- Sweet sticky rice with mango
We spent a few hours learning all about how to make these dishes and then trying our hands at cooking them ourselves. Our instructor taught us techniques, tips and tricks to make not only delicious meals but also beautiful ones. We chopped, prepped, cooked, sampled, plated and devoured all of the great meals we made today. The class was thorough, well organized and most importantly… fun!
Taking a cooking course was a great way to learn more about the local culture and try some new foods. We cannot wait to do this again in more countries that we visit. And to cook these delicious meals and show off our new skills to our family and friends!
